RECALL: I’m laughing at the stupidity of Kogi govt –Melaye

Written by Editor

The senator representing Kogi West at the Senate, Dino Melaye, has described the moves to recall him by his constituency as a comedy
of errors that will not succeed.

Melaye in a Facebook post on Wednesday also said that he was laughing at the stupidity of the Kogi State government, even as he inferred that a great number of names and signature on the recall list were forged.
He said “It can not succeed. It is a hoax and absolute comedy of errors. I’m laughing at the stupidity of kogi state government.

“Many appointees will go to jail for forgery. Even dead people’s names on the recall register. A governor who does not know what double registration is may not as well know the procedure for recall.

“Every lie has an expiry date. This comedy of errors will soon end. No shaking at all. This won’t solve the problem of not paying salaries for over 15 months.

“No retreat no surrender. Truth is my only Defence”.

On Monday, the returning officer for the recall of Melaye, Mallam Ademu Yusuf, while announcing the result purportedly from the seven local government areas, had explained that the collation was done last Saturday in Kabba, the headquarters of Kogi West senatorial district.

He gave a breakdown of the voting as Yagba East, out of 35,331 registered voters, 18,374 signed while in Yagba West, out of 35,966 registered voters, 20,029 signed.

In Mopa-Amuro, out of 18,356 registered voters, 9,186 signed; Kabba-Bunu has 60,522 registered voters, 28,277 signed; Kogi has 46,810 registered voters, 27,703 signed, Lokoja has 116,296 registered voters, 63,736 signed while in Ijumu, out of 46,819 registered voters, 24,283 signed.

According to Yusuf, out of the 360,098 total number of registered voters in all the seven local government areas, 188,588 registered voters signed the recall of Melaye.

“Constitutional requirement for recall is 50.1 per cent of the registered voters and already we have 52.1 per cent,” he had said.

Melaye and his state governor have been at loggerheads, trading accusations and insults over affairs in the state.
